Be Patient! Good Things Take Time!
“The earlier the better”, this will be the answer given by all to the one who asks the question, “When do you want me to complete this assignment!” We always desire to complete all our work as early as possible because we have so many pending items on our plate. The primary reason for this is not that we have too many things to do and we have less time. The proper reason for this is that we do not manage our time properly. We waste precious hours of our life doing things that were not required and invariably end up late on doing things that should have been already completed.
When deadlines have come close, we have less time and more work, then we start becoming anxious and frustrated. We begin to panic. We then start rushing trying to complete more work in less time. We expect the same from another person as well. But we have to realize that things will take their own time. All the work has to be done with proper planning and only then the execution work has to begin. To try and rush things would only end up spoiling the whole project.

I began to wonder that the restaurant we went to before one week had a very quick service. Had we gone there we would have saved around 30 minutes.
“The fact is that you can?t do everything that you have to do. You have to procrastinate on something. Therefore, procrastinate on small tasks. There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing” – Brian Tracy
But then I asked myself, “What about the quality of food? Which one was better?” I realized that the food we had in our latest restaurant was hot and very fresh. It was because the food was prepared fresh after the order was given. I realized that the restaurant owner took care that only after the person comes to the restaurant some processes would be done, so it would add value to the food they will serve. I realized that we need to have patience, “Good Things always Take Time”.
The ideal way to tackle this situation is to plan properly. Do not waste precious time and make sure you begin your work on time. If you want to reach the office at 10 am, instead of starting at 9.30 start at 9.20, so you will have those extra 10 minutes which will not make you panic when you are driving your vehicle. Take your time and produce quality work and also allow the other person to do the same time. Give him time, let him plan and then the quality of work would be better.
Again what is the use of doing work with less quality but greater pace? Most of the work which is done without planning and by rushing would have to be reworked and that cost would be much higher and would incur greater cost compared to the work done by following proper processes.
Imagine a contractor rushing things and constructing a building without proper planning. It will create gaps that will never be filled. A person doing software projects without proper planning would produce applications without implementing proper security methods. Never tell your wife, “Prepare the breakfast quickly, its time to go to the office!” Otherwise, be prepared to have low quality food. In a nutshell, we need to understand the following things.
I will tell you an ugly joke which I read yesterday in WhatsApp, pardon me if it irritates you.
When the manager again told the employee to finish the work urgently he finally could not resist saying, “A baby will only be born after 9 months of the struggle endured by the wife. You cannot produce a baby in one month by making 9 wives pregnant”
“The first 10% of the time that you spend planning and organizing your work before you begin will save you as much as 90% of the time in getting the job done once you get started” – Brian Tracy
Let’s summarise today’s topic
1. Good Things Take Time
2. With proper planning and beginning work on time, we can get that extra cushion.
3. Utilize your time properly and do not waste time. Whenever you begin a task ask yourself, “Is it necessary to do this task or can I skip it as I have other tasks to complete.” Invariably you will skip most of the tasks.
4. Give yourself enough time to work and also give the other person enough space to work.
5. Do more research on time management. Listen to audios, read books, discuss with people, and find your own methods to achieve that.
